Observation

=> advantage of observation of behavior: record behavior as it actually occurs
three phases in the observation
- perception (listening)
- registration (description and arrangement)
- interpretation (analysis)
Differences in the quality of perception
- construction
- experience
- motivation
- interest
three exceptions in which observation of behavior is not possible
- not observable behavior: asking questions!
Eg.: Sexual behavior, voting behavior, conflicts, ... - behavior past or future conduct: asking questions!
- behavior in large groups questioning
